First came the Romans and a settlement founded,
Then came the Normans, their Keep, stoned and rounded,
Outside the walls, grew a hamlet so small,
With Saint John's steeple, that then stood tall.Then came the Coal Trade, and with it the Port,
And Cardiff grew quickly, surrounding the Fort;
Today it's a City, so large and grand,
The great Capital of this Ancient Welsh Land.The Docks are now over, they've had their Day,
Now turned into a Project, simply called the Bay;
And soon, to have a National Stadium of Fame,
With a Roof that is open, or closed when it rains.
Inside Cardiff Castle, the round Norman Keep still stands on the mound.
The Dock area of Cardiff is today being transformed and is known simply as the Bay Project.
The new Arms Park Stadium is to be built with a roof that will open or close. Hence the poem starts with the first construction in Cardiff and end with the newest.
