Maui Bahá'í Youth Workshop Acts #27

Maui Bahá'í Youth Workshop Acts #27 refers to the # of performances
conducted since its' inaugural first, incidentally on 'First Nite' 1 January
1995, at Maui Arts & Cultural Center. I'm looking at this list of activities,
and before we get to the 'Acts 27', another major success, I wanted to
share with the friends, who it seems have now grown considerably
to include BB's internationally, (Thank you for your loving letters to the
Youth, last night at the island wide Ayyám-i-Há Celebration, they were
shared to the entire gathering ~ 75-) Bahá'í network, God I love this Faith!
We all just love each other! The Maui Bahá'í Youth Workshop has
performed at just about every major event on Maui where entertainment,
information, education, public services have occured. The demand, yes,
they are in demand, where the schedualling of activities has become a
critical concern, is such that it involves, the National Assembly, the
Counsellor and its Auxiliary, the Spiritual Assembly of Makawao, and
immediately the Coordinators. Why? The Workshop has been
requested to travel teach to the South Pacific this summer (6 weeks)
and 3 additional weeks through the Hawaiian Island chain. Funds?
Support? The Youth are going! Just ask any one of them. The
progressive development of the Faith in the Austrialasia region, a
major component part of the indigenous peoples of the world, where
we are fully aware, for the salvation of the peoples of the world, the Faith
must spread its wings. It's all part of "The Ocean of Light' projects,
         So, anyways...

        Acts 27: 'Health Fest Family', Sunday 8 a.m. - 6 p.m., Kama'ole
Beach Park III, Kihei, Maui. Sponsored by the 'Drug Free Hawaii', 'Imi I
Loko Kou Piko' (Investing in our future) coalition. The Maui Youth
Workshop opened the program, which saw various entertainers and a
variety of informative displays. Additionally, the Workshop was asked
to perform again, not schedualed, at 4p.m. This second performance
was very powerful and had a tremendous impact upon the crowd of 250 ~.

A group of Hana youth, who where so touched by the Workshop
members last weekend, travelled to the Central Valley and spent the
weekend with them.

Kristyl Gomes, 18, 1 year Bahá'í, a senior at Seabury High, who
usually performs the 'Choices' lead, was able to observe the performance
at this 4p.m. occassion. Because Kristyl was in a basketball tounrament on
Kaua`i, Megan Grossman, 17, Maui High, performed in her place. "People
again where very touched with the performance. Some where crying,
some were in deep thought. Some where saying 'Right on!', some were
applauding! It was good to watch and get a feeling for what's happening
in the audiance."

Last night at the Ayyám-i-Há Celebration something spontaneous
occured. After dinner, Kaliko Palo, a dear Hawaiian brother to you all,
(count on it) shared the similiar meanings of Ayyám-i-Há to the Hawaiian
meaning. All my findings to the meaning of Ayyám-i-Há are as follows.

Aia: 'location -there'. Mi: to dream. Ha: the spirit of the breath. In
Hawaiian thought, the word 'kaona' refers to deep hidden meaning.
Aia`! means: 'taken by surprise', catch you off guard! 'Miha' means: silent,
quiet, exhilation of God! I was moved to understand that similiar to the
Arabic translation, in Hawaiian, the days of Ayyám-i-Há mean: 'in awe,
I am of God, His creation, the breath, exhilation of God, ha!

Then the youth decided to do a hack job on some of their
performances, switching roles, the older members doing children parts,
and vice-a-versa. The males doing the female parts and well, you get
the idea. It was hilarious!

Next? We are arranging several school performances and then there
is the big upcoming events of Kaua`i for the National Convention.

For those whom this reaches, if you feel so moved, to deputize in
part if not in whole, a youth, or a part of this upcoming trip to the South
Pacific, Kiribati, Marshall Islands and Tuvalu, please send your tax
deductable contributions to:

By the way, this is the same Local Spiritual Assembly who organized
the 'Promise of World Peace Tour' (62 youth from 8 Countries) to Russia
in 1989. We do that! We know how! You pray, We teach! Ok, you teach
too! Send money!
