Jamie,
Perhaps becoming a Baha'i is like starting a long journey. No matter how
much study we do beforehand, we cannot know in advance of the amazing
discoveries, the challenges, the friendships, the trials, or the lasting
spiritual enrichment that lies ahead. The soaring exhilaration of the
spirit that comes when we view the world from a mountain-top, or learn that
humanity has moved a little closer to the Most Great Peace, cannot be
described. It must be experienced. Also, as with any long journey, the
first step is the hardest.
If you believe that Baha'u'llah is a manifestation of God and you are
prepared to follow His teachings, then IMHO there is nothing to stop you
becoming a Baha'i.
Regarding your concern about different views, might I suggest praying for
assistance?
Surely God will help everyone find the truth and Baha'u'llah has said that
in this age we not only can, but must find out the truth for ourselves.
Perhaps a starting point might be to find out exactly what the Baha'i
Writings state about the subjects that interest you and then to search for
a way of reconciling your views with the Baha'i Writings. Note that this
does not mean giving up your views but maybe finding a new perspective.
I believe that, through independent investigation and prayer, we are often
granted a special insight that helps us overcome our difficulties and solve
our problems in a unique and personal way.
It may be that your own special insight does not come immediately. Please
don't let this prevent you from taking the first step on a wonderful
journey.
